Top 5 Most Wedding Money Wasters

The best ways to save money for your event is to avoid the things that aren't worth it at any cost.

Expensive & Meaningless Favors

Favors can be a thoughtful way of saying thank you to your guests. More often they are meaningless knickknacks. Your guests done need a figurine or a place card holder, what will they do with one place card holder. And will they want one wine glass with your name and wedding date on it. Would you use a Frisbee with your friends wedding date on it ?

Spending money on things that will just collect dust and finally end up in the trash, these items will not even be able to be recycled. I believe it's far better to not give favors, or make a donation to a charity. Think about giving food favors from the city you live in, or a box of your favorite chocolate, or candies.

You can send your guests home with a few quality tea bags, or perhaps a pot of honey or jam. The next morning they can reminisce about the previous days event.

The most thoughtful favors can be handmade. Coasters made of ceramic tile, other material, with your names & date inscribed on the bottom. Or create a CD with an insert explaining you chose each song.

The Never ending Bride and Groom Swag

It may be fun to have bride & groom hats, tee shirts, or a pair of track pants that say Bride across your butt, because these things limited use. Seriously, are you going to wear these things after the event. You have an identity beyond that of a bride. Do you have a pair of track pants that trumpets " secretary" or doctor, course not, so why would you want people in public to see you first as a bride.

Another of the biggest money waster of all is giving your bridal party bridesmaid & groomsman stuff. You don't really expect  your birdal party to wear these items again.

Too Large a Wedding Cake

If your only going to invite 100 guests , why order a cake that serves 200. Cake slices are going from $2.00 t0 $15.00 per slice, the extra's add up very quickly. Large cakes look inpressive and are a great photo-opportunity, small cakes can be charming. If height is a priorty, think about using a seperator set, and adding fresh flowers between the layers.

If your having more than 100 guests , ask for a display cake & use a inexpensive sheet cake in the back to feed the extra guests. No one will know the difference.

Too Many Mementos

The industry loves to sell you products & goods by promising they will be keepsakes that you can pass on to your children.  Having momentos of your special day is good thing, but you don't need very many. Put together a wedding album, or perhaps perserve your wedding dress. Do you need the personalized pen set to sign the guest book? Or Preserving your bouquet worth the money ?  And not even toasting glass, picture frame, or photo album needs to be monogrammed with your wedding date.

Rather than filling your home to loads of wedding mementos, leave room for creating new life memories.

Too Many Bridesmaids and Groomsmen

Have you ever seen a wedding with more that a dozen attendants ? It starts to look like an wedding army. First consider what the role of the wedding party should be. Even if your not paying for the wedding parties attire, each attendant will require a bouquet of a boutonniere, a thank you gift, and an invitation to the rehearsal dinner, and other parties. Tack on a few unnecessary bridesmaid and groomsmen and your adding
potentially hundreds of dollars to the budget.
